The "D" word

Discharge! What???? Yup, that was the topic of discussion today. We can plainly see the light at the end of the tunnel! I spent most of the day today talking to doctors, nurses, and yes, the discharge planner! It seems that we will be going home on THURSDAY!!! I am experiencing such a huge range of emotions....excitement, fear, joy, terror....the whole spectrum of emotion all at once! The butterflies in my stomach don't know whether to make me smile or make me throw up. Ha! I'm currently at home, frantically trying to get all the dust bunnies vacuumed up (after not being home for 6 weeks I sure grew a lot of dust and cobwebs!) and get all of Elaina's supplies organized. I have NJ feeding supplies, suction supplies, along with all the normal baby supplies that I'll need. Not to mention her oxygen and oxymeter. We should be having a nurse come in to do checks 4 times a week, basically every other day. They are going to teach me how to do her chest PT and suction, and I've already been practicing giving her Lovinox shots (in her tummy - ouch!) They are planning on keeping her broviac in for the time being. Just in case.....
Anyway, I just had to post. I just hope I didn't jinx it..... :)

(By the way, Isaac's viewing and funeral will be on Friday. I am so so so sad that I won't be able to go. I just can't expose Elaina to all the people.... My heart aches, prayers will continue to be said, and I will be there in spirit.)

AMAZING!!! I'm so excited for you right now! As heart mommies, we all certainly understand the roller coaster of emotions - but not quite as many loop de loops & ups & down's as you've been on!

Praying that she continues to make leaps & bounds, & that your transition to HOME is smooth!

Lots of luv & hugs!

PS - I'd love to have a photo of Elaina & Ben on our map!

WOW!! That's amazing! I'm very happy for you guys... but you need to remember to still post often with updates!

P.S. About the Lovenox... Caden was taking those shots twice a day for months. It's a pain keeping them in the fridge and all that, but it's worth it in the long run. You might want to ask if she can get the shots in her thighs. We switched back and forth between thighs. It seems too painful to get them in your stomach, and he had practically the same exact thing that she does with her leg. On a positive note, he had an ultrasound on Thursday of his leg, and his clots are completely gone! She will be the same, it just takes time!

Yeah for Elaina!!!!!!! I was so happy to read the news this morning. I remember when Nathan came home from the NICU after 9 weeks I was so frightened to have people around him. It was super crazy learning everything and coming home to an organized house (that I spent 3 days prior to discharge frantically cleaning!) I realize you don't want ANY bugs around that baby. If you ever feel up to a visitor, email me and let me know (we're only 10 - 15 minutes away!)

Elaina's story has been so faith promoting for me. After hearing of Isaac's story it makes me realize how fragile life is.

Good luck!

Love,

Stephanie & Nathan

How exciting for you! Don't forget to rest and take care of your self! I know, I know easier said than done, but make sure and accept help when offered...I learned the hard way!
