Post Op Day 1: 5:00pm

This is Valerie again with a brief "update"--we've been getting calls complaining about not updating again today, so in response I would like to report that things are about the same as this morning. Elaina is still on the oscillator, but her stats are looking good for where she's at. The doctors told us that they still just want to watch her and let her rest, so we may be playing this same tune for awhile--watch and wait. It's hard to see her like this, but at least she is making little improvements.

Tonight we're excited to have Auntie Liz come visit, and it's been very nice to have Elaina's Grandma and Grandpa Hilton here this afternoon--a lot more rested than they were yesterday!

The nurses just changed Elaina's bedding--even under the paralytics and sedation, she still gets mad when she's moved or suctioned! But now she has a nice pink blanket to lay on, and it makes her whole room glow a little. She's hanging in there!

Hollie, I've been thinking of you and Elaina. I will keep praying for her as long as she needs me to. It was nice to see you again, but it breaks my heart to hear all that Elaina's been through. I hope and pray that she continues to progress forward and doesn't take anysteps back. If you ever need someone to talk to just give me a call I am usually up until 11:00PM

Valerie...Thanks for the updates!
You guys are all in our thoughts and prayers. May this weekend give Elaina the rest she needs to be put on the vent, and let her little heart and lungs heal.

Love,
Kathy

I know just what you mean about still moving about on the paralytics. With her second surgery Vaeh was getting morphine, fentanyl, versed & pavulon (paralytic) & still managing to move around! Girl likes her drugs! We called her our little junkie for a while. She came home on ativan for withdrawl symptoms.

Glad to hear that Elaina is holding her own. Sounds like she just needs to hang out & let the Big Man upstairs do His work!

Praying that she has another good night & you enjoy your visit with family! Always in our prayers!

I read about Elaina on Vaeh's blog, and had to come check out her story. My son has tetralogy of fallot and had surgery when he was 8 weeks old. I, too, will be praying for Elaina to get past this initial difficult time, and for your family to find strength to cope with the current situation. I will be checking back to read more updates.

I'm so glad Elaina is holding her own and hasn't need the ECMO. She is a true fighter!

It's great that you have the support of your family. It's so important when your going through all of this to try and take care of yourself as well.

I'm praying this is a weekend of rest and Elaina's body will begin to heal.

Hugs to you all!
